C36000 alloys are referred to as “free-cutting brass” or “free-machining brass” for obvious reasons. They are excellent alloys for applications where they are going to be machined. During the machining process, C36000 tends to form chips rather than continuous coils. This is considered preferable because coils can interfere with the machining process, especially high-speed machining. This alloy is rated as excellent for soldering and good for brazing. C36000 alloys have excellent corrosion resistance at room temperature and even down to cryogenic temperatures.
